When you think of the holidays, and this time of year in general, what flavors come to mind? You might instantly be drawn to thoughts of crisp cool peppermint, or spicy gingerbread, sweet sugar cookies heaped with sprinkles, and cocoa and marshmallows by the fire. Sweets often take the lead during the holidays, but there’s still a lot of room for the savory.
Is there anyone out there who doesn’t like macaroni and cheese? I don’t think I’ve ever met that someone. If there is someone out there who doesn’t like it, I don’t think they’ve tried one like this. This is my all time favorite Mac & Cheese recipe. It’s a little more “grown up” than the usual, I guess. Not that the kids seem to mind. They usually dive right in too.
With loads of cheese, butter and pasta, it’s definitely a splurge, but it’s a splurge worth splurging on.
The mantra I use to get me through the holiday cooking season is simply, “Make Ahead”. I am all about getting things prepped as early on as I possibly can, whether it be for a ginormous Thanksgiving or Christmas dinner, or just a smaller, intimate get together. This is a great make-ahead appetizer for the holidays, or any time of the year, really! You can prep these beautiful little rolls earlier in the day, store them in the fridge, and then bake them up right before your guests arrive.
My husband wasn’t home for dinner one night last week, so I took it upon myself to declare it a Girls’ Night In and invited a friend of mine over to hang out, laugh a lot, and have some dinner. Because that’s what girls like to do, right? Talking, laughing, eating…we like that. Plus, my little girls were there with us, so it was a multi-generational girls’ night, which made it extra special.
