Plainly and simply, Dorie Greenspan is my baking guru.

Her Baking: From My Home to Yours book is my baking bible.  The pages are dog-eared, floured, crinkly, and splattered with recipe shrapnel, which is always a sign of good things. Her beautiful, delicious desserts are now our birthday traditions and family favorites around here, and I’ve even featured quite a few recipes of hers right here on this blog. So, when my friends at OXO got in touch with me and asked if I’d like to have the opportunity to try out one of Dorie’s newest recipes, from her highly anticipated new book Dorie’s Cookies (Coming in October!), I couldn’t pass it up.

Spring is in the air!  Well, kind of.  I mean, we’ve had a couple of really warm days lately and the trees are getting confused, but I think we’re still supposed to get more snow later this week.  I’m just going to ignore it.  Snow or no snow, it doesn’t really matter because the warm days we’ve been blessed with have gotten my taste buds ready for all of the fresh and light that spring and summer have to offer.

A few weeks ago, I was using my hand mixer while baking up something in the kitchen, and I mentioned to my husband that it seemed that the mixer I’d received as a wedding gift, nineteen years ago, was finally reaching the age of retirement.  It just didn’t have much get-up-and-go anymore, and it sounded pretty pitiful.  It was kind of sad, and bittersweet…mainly because I’m realizing that I’m old enough to send reliable appliances into retirement.  Not too long after the old mixer was put out to pasture, I heard from my friends at OXO, and they asked if I’d like to try out their new OXO On Illuminating Digital Hand Mixer! Do they have perfect timing, or what?

Zucchini noodles seem to be all the rage right now and spiralizers are moving from a fancy garnish tool to an everyday kitchen gadget. My friends at OXO asked me to try out their new Hand Held Spiralizer, and of course, I told them I’d love to give it a try!

What to make, though?  As I was trying to figure out what to tackle first with my new gadget, I ran across an old recipe, written on a postcard, from my mother.  I have no idea where this recipe came from.  Probably from the pages of an old, yellowed cooking magazine or from one of her gazillion cookbooks (I come by my book hoarding tendencies honestly).  It’s simply written on a notecard, and this delicious, blast-from-the-past spaghetti salad struck me as the perfect thing to modernize with a little spiralize.

When the good people at OXO contacted me and asked if I’d like to try out a pan from their new cookware line, I didn’t hesitate to say yes!  OXO was a staple in my kitchen long before I started blogging.  Their products are always well made, completely functional, and above all, comfortable!  My drawers are filled with their gadgets and utensils, and I knew that the quality of their cookware would be no different.

So when this beautiful Non-Stick Pro Saute Pan showed up on my doorstep, I knew exactly the meal to make to try it out.

Tomato-Basil Tart - Chew Nibble NoshSpring has sprung (finally), and believe it or not, summer is right around the corner!  I’ll fully admit that this time of year, every year, I get a case of the “Ohmigosh, I have to be in a swim suit, in public, in just a few short weeks.” heebie jeebies.  Thankfully, as the weather warms up, I feel like eating lighter anyway.  Hopefully, shedding the heavier, comfort food that winter brings will help me shed a few pounds as well.

That said, nobody wants to starve.
