Thanksgiving Recipe Roundup: Top Ten Recipes for a Delicious Thanksgiving

Tis the season to start stuffing ourselves, and our turkeys.  Are you hosting Thanksgiving this year?  I am.  And you know what?  I love cooking Thanksgiving dinner.  Sure, it’s stressful and there’s a lot going on, but it’s absolutely my favorite meal of the year.  I’ve tried a lot of Thanksgiving recipes in my day, and there are a few favorites I always return to.  The Herb Buttered and Brined Turkey recipe featured in this roundup is always my go-to Thanksgiving turkey, and my husband’s favorite “Thanksgiving in a Dish” dressing will make an appearance again this year as well…because if I didn’t make it, husband would be sad, and nobody wants a pouty husband at the Thanksgiving table.

Mini No-Bake Blueberry Cheesecakes

Outdoor concerts are one of my favorite ways to spend an evening in the summer. We’re very lucky to be surrounded by many different opportunities for musical evenings where we live, and we were excited when some friends of ours asked if we’d like to join them for a night with the Indianapolis Symphony Orchestra under the stars last week.

Just a few short days ago, the weather was brutally hot around these parts, as it was in most of the country. So, trying to figure out what to bring for our symphony picnic proved tricky.  I wanted food that would keep us cool, that wouldn’t weigh us down in the heat. I also needed food that wouldn’t melt, and that was easily transportable in a small rolling cooler.

Simple Raspberry Cream Tart

It’s berry season!  Berries are officially my favorite dessert fruit, so when early summer rolls around and bright, beautiful, fresh berries are abundant, I stock up and start cooking.  I ran across this super simple Raspberry Cream Tart from Midwest Living magazine, and I knew this was the perfect time to give it a try.

The dessert looks perfectly summery and elegant, but putting it together is a breeze, and it gets a little (delicious) help from a convenient grocery store staple…

Refrigerated Sugar Cookie Dough.

No crust muss and fuss, just a minute or so of pressing cookie dough into a tart pan, and you’re on your way.

Choco-Nana Bread

I have notoriously bad luck with banana bread.  Every time I try to bake a loaf, it’s either overbaked or raw in the middle.  Despite that, I haven’t given up trying to make a decent loaf, and when I realized the bananas on our counter were brown and spotty, and wouldn’t be going anywhere, I decided I should give a new recipe a try.

Easy Lemon Crinkle Cookies

Sometimes, you just need a little something sweet, and baking up a little something sweet doesn’t get much easier than these little lemon cookies.

One of my favorite simple cookie recipes is the one for Butter Pecan Toffee Cookies that I shared a long while back.  This recipe is quite similar, in that they both use a boxed cake mix as a base.  There’s something special about these cake mix cookies! I love how ridiculously easy they are, how deliciously chewy they are, and even better for me, each batch only makes a couple dozen cookies, so I get my fix but we aren’t eating them for days on end. (Or, let’s be honest, I’m not eating them for days on end.  I’d be lying if I failed to mention that I had one with my coffee this morning.  It’s clearly not a green smoothie kind of day.)

Chilled Strawberry Soup

My goodness, this Easter has come up quickly.  If you’re feeling as holiday crunched as I am, and you’re hosting dinner, then this is the perfect speedy quick, yet impressive, dish to serve your guests.  It’s embarrassingly easy…but nobody needs to know.  For some reason, chilled soups seem extra special, and this one was always a favorite of ours when we’d visit Disney World, of all places.

Double Chocolate Peppermint Crunch Cookies – The Great Food Blogger Cookie Swap 2015

Double Chocolate Peppermint Crunch Cookies - Chew Nibble Nosh 7

It’s that time of year again!  It’s time to announce this year’s contribution to The Great Food Blogger Cookie Swap!  This is my fifth year participating in this fabulous event, hosted by Julie at The Little Kitchen and Lindsay from Love & Olive Oil. My job?  Bake up a fantastically new cookie recipe and ship out boxes of treats to three hungry food bloggers, Secret Santa style.  These delectable little cocoa-peppermint gems are what made the cut this year.  Dark, and fudgy, but with a peppermint zing that seems just about perfect this time of year, I couldn’t wait to send them out to this year’s recipients, Ginger from Stark Raving Delicious, Kellie from The Suburban Soapbox, and Annie from Annie One Can Cook.  Based on the response I got, I think they really enjoyed them!  Hope you do too.

Sour Cream Cranberry-Almond Pound Cake: Mix Up the Holiday with OXO On

A few weeks ago, I was using my hand mixer while baking up something in the kitchen, and I mentioned to my husband that it seemed that the mixer I’d received as a wedding gift, nineteen years ago, was finally reaching the age of retirement.  It just didn’t have much get-up-and-go anymore, and it sounded pretty pitiful.  It was kind of sad, and bittersweet…mainly because I’m realizing that I’m old enough to send reliable appliances into retirement.  Not too long after the old mixer was put out to pasture, I heard from my friends at OXO, and they asked if I’d like to try out their new OXO On Illuminating Digital Hand Mixer! Do they have perfect timing, or what?

Stuffed Caramel Apple Cupcakes

I know, I know.  Thanksgiving is on Thursday and this isn’t a recipe for pie.  I hope you’ll forgive my holiday faux pas once we get going.  In all honesty, I made these amazing little gems for a Halloween party, and I’ve had so many requests for the recipe, that I thought I’d present them to you as a possible addition to your Thanksgiving dessert table.  They are deliciously sweet, sticky, and gooey, just the way a caramel apple should be. And, even though they aren’t pie, you’ll find they’re perfect for any fall celebration.  It’s not often that adults go nuts over cupcakes, but that was certainly the case when I made these the first time.
